Club Nacional defender Juan Izquierdo was admitted to an intensive care unit on Friday after collapsing on the pitch during a Copa Libertadores match.
Izquierdo lost consciousness in the 84th minute of the Uruguayan side's away clash with Sao Paulo at Morumbi Stadium, falling to the ground without contact with another player.
The 27-year-old, who was a substitute for Sebastian Coates at halftime, was transported off the pitch by ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital.
"Juan Izquierdo suffered an irregular heartbeat during the match against Sao Paulo," Nacional said in a social media post.
"He is being treated at the intensive care unit of the Albert Einstein Hospital. He is currently in a stable condition and remains under observation."
Sao Paulo won the round-of-16 second-leg clash 2-0 to set up a quarterfinal duel with Brazilian Serie A rivals Botafogo.
