FC Barcelona confirmed the sale of central defender Mika Faye to French side Stade Rennes for a fee of just over 10 million euros on Sunday.
"FC Barcelona and Stade Rennes have reached agreement for the transfer of the player Mika Faye for 10.3 million euros," informed the Barcelona website, adding that the club "has included a 25 million euro buyback clause and a 30 percent sell-on fee clause in the deal."
Faye joined Barcelona from Croatian club NK Kustosija in 2023 and made 33 appearances for their B-team, Barca Athletic, last season, as well as making his international debut for Senegal in March this year.
He was included in the first team's pre-season tour of the United States this summer, although injuries prevented him playing many minutes, and the club were always considering a sale, given there was little point in him spending another season playing in Spain's third tier, with little chance of regular minutes with the first team.
The sale will slightly help ease Barcelona's economic problems, but it's not certain if it will allow them to inscribe new signing Dani Olmo in their squad for Tuesday's league game away to Rayo Vallecano.
