Renzo Tesuri struck a first-half winner as Atletico Tucuman confirmed their title credentials with a 1-0 home victory over Racing Club in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.
Tesuri put his side ahead on the half hour by combining with Luis Rodriguez before slotting home from 12 yards.
Racing controled almost two thirds of possession but lacked a cutting edge in the final third as they sank to their fourth defeat of the season.
The result leaves Atletico Tucuman second with 25 points from 13 outings, two points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield. Racing are seventh in the 28-team standings, four points further back.
"We approached the game wanting to be as physical as possible and apply maximum pressure whenever they had the ball," Atletico manager Facundo Sava told reporters afterwards.
"It required a lot of energy because the players gave 100%. The support of the fans lifted us up at a time when we felt tired and that allowed us to hang on until the end."
In other Argentine top flight fixtures on Sunday, Tigre won 2-0 at Huracan, San Lorenzo prevailed 2-1 at Platense, River Plate drew 0-0 at Independiente and Instituto Cordoba won 2-1 at Banfield.
