Poland and the United States claimed the men's and women's golds respectively at the U19 world beach volleyball championships on Sunday in northwest China's Shangluo City.
In the men's final between Poland's Szymon Pietraszek and Jakub Krzeminski and Latvia's Matiss Salkovskis and Karlis Jaundzeikars, the Polish duo saved six set points in the first set before taking it 25-23.
In the second set, the score was once tied at 18-18. The Latvian pair managed to save one out of two match points, but Pietraszek sealed the win at 21-19 with a decisive spike.
In the women's competition, the U.S. duo Myriah Massey and Lily Davis faced off against Spain's Sofia Izuzquiza Corulla and Marta Carro Marquez de Acuna.
The U.S. players established a 5-point lead midway through the first set, with Massey effectively mixing spikes and dinks against her taller opponents, and the U.S. team secured the first set 21-16.
At the start of the second set, the Spanish pair fell behind 1-5, while managing to claw back three consecutive points after a timeout. However, the U.S. team maintained their control throughout. The match concluded with Marta Carro serving into the net, giving the U.S. pair another 21-16 victory to capture the title.
