Ajax announced the transfer just 10 minutes before the close of the Dutch transfer market, which was at midnight. The transfer fee for Bergwijn was 21 million euros (about 23.23 million U.S. dollars).
Bergwijn joined Ajax from Tottenham Hotspur in 2022, with the Amsterdam-based club paying 31 million euros for the forward at the time, making him Ajax's most expensive signing ever. Over 80 matches for Ajax, Bergwijn scored 29 goals.
At Al-Ittihad, one of Saudi Arabia's top clubs, Bergwijn will join a roster that includes notable names such as N'Golo Kante, Fabinho, and Karim Benzema. Additionally, Portuguese midfielder Danilo Pereira has also joined Al-Ittihad, arriving from Paris Saint-Germain.
