Former Eintracht Frankfurt striker Yang Chen has stood down as vice general manager of Henan FC, after reportedly becoming disillusioned about his future at the club.

"Effective from today, Mr Yang Chen no longer serves as the vice general manager of Henan FC," the Chinese Super League (CSL) club said in a brief statement on Wednesday.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt striker had been appointed on May 20, tasked with managing the club's struggling senior team and youth development issues, according to Henan FC.

Yang's appointment filled the vacancy left by his former China national teammate Li Weifeng, who, according to Henan, had resigned with the aim to "protect the under-fire coaching staff and players of the senior team."

Under South Korean head coach Nam Ki-il, Henan FC had been languishing in 12th in the CSL table with 10 points, after two wins, four draws and six losses. After Yang stepped in, the team's performance picked up, and they moved up to eighth position.

But according to local media reports, Yang was upset when told he could not enter the Henan side's dressing room, and became dismayed to see his advice about team management fall on deaf ears.

The disillusioned Yang found himself able to do little to help the club and then chose to step aside despite the club's repeated efforts to talk him out of his decision, a local report said.

As a player, Yang played for Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt from 1998 to 2002.
