Shanghai Port maintained a two-point lead over its city rival Shanghai Shenhua as both sides emerged victorious in their contention for the Chinese Super League (CSL) title on Friday.
Port notched a 2-0 victory over Shenzhen Peng City, while Shenhua edged Zhejiang FC 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.
In the 18th minute, Chinese international Wu Lei scored his 29th league goal of the season, tying Eran Zahavi's single-season scoring record in 2019. Port doubled the lead in the 82nd minute when Feng Jin dribbled past Peng City's goalkeeper to put the ball into an empty net.
Zhejiang took the lead in the fourth minute and extended its advantage through Jean Evrard Kouassi half an hour later, while Fei Nanduo assisted Wu Xi and Andre Luis to restore parity for Shenhua before the interval.
Two minutes into the second half, Shenhua's Wang Haijian unleashed a powerful shot inside the penalty area, finding the bottom left corner of the goal. Shenhua sealed the victory after Fei Nanduo tapped in a cross from his teammate, marking his first goal since joining the team on loan in July, while Sun Guowen pulled one back for Zhejiang in the 67th minute.
Elsewhere, Qingdao West Coast stunned Shandong Taishan 1-0, handing the visitors their fourth loss in the past five matches.
