Peru international forward Andre Carrillo has revealed that national teammate Paolo Guerrero played a crucial role in his decision to join Corinthians.

Carrillo arrived at the Brazilian Serie A club on a free transfer earlier this month, but only after he sought the advice of Guerrero, who represented Corinthians from 2012 to 2015.

"Paolo is a great player, not only for Corinthians, but in the Peruvian national team," the 33-year-old told reporters on Thursday. "He spoke very highly of the fans and the city [Sao Paulo], so that helped to make my decision."

Carrillo agreed to a deal that runs until July 2025 after parting ways with Saudi Arabia's Al-Qadsiah by mutual consent.

He has already made two appearances for Corinthians, coming off the bench in a 2-1 loss to Botafogo and a 2-0 victory over Fortaleza in Brazil's Serie A championship.

"I'm coming from a completely different league [in Saudi Arabia]," Carrillo said. "The competition there is greater. I'm fine with that. I'm going to do my best to achieve my goals at the club"

Carrillo has represented Sporting Lisbon, Benfica and Watford, among other clubs, over a professional career spanning 15 years. He has been capped 100 times for Peru, scoring 11 goals.

Despite having agreed to a 10-month contract with Corinthians, Carrillo expressed a desire to stay longer.

"My idea is to be here for a long time and make history," he said. "I've spent all of my career at big clubs and I've won a lot of trophies. I think that holds me in good stead."

"I want to help the younger players by sharing my knowledge and hopefully contributing on the pitch," he added.
