Cruzeiro have appointed former Brazil national team boss Fernando Diniz as their new manager, the Belo Horizonte club said on Monday.
In a brief statement, Cruzeiro said Diniz agreed to a deal that runs until the end of 2025.
The 50-year-old replaces Fernando Seabra, who was sacked after a goalless draw at Cuiaba in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
The result left Cruzeiro seventh in the 20-team standings with 42 points from 27 games, 14 points behind leaders Botafogo.
Diniz has been out of work since June when he parted ways with Fluminense. His dismissal came just seven months after he guided the Rio de Janeiro club to the Copa Libertadores title, South America's most prestigious club trophy.
Diniz also had a six-month spell as Brazil's manager in the second half of last year, a job he held concurrently with the Fluminense position.
He is expected to take charge of Cruzeiro for the first time in Thursday's home Copa Sudamericana second-leg clash against Paraguayan side Libertad. Cruzeiro won the first leg in Asuncion 2-0.
