Sevilla have extended the contract of coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta until the end of June 2027 in a surprise move by the Spanish club.
The new contract for the former Las Palmas and Barcelona B-team coach was confirmed in the wake of Sevilla's narrow win at home to Valladolid on Tuesday night, which lifted them 12th in the table, with eight points from seven matches.
The news is a surprise, given that the coach only arrived from Las Palmas in the summer and had been under considerable pressure after a poor start to the season, with just one win (at home to Getafe) prior to Tuesday night's victory.
"They have seen me work, I am very happy here and that is why we have signed until 2027," commented the coach afterwards.
"I understand that they must be happy with what we are doing and this shows continuity in our work and allow us to work calmly," added Garcia Pimienta, who acknowledged that Sevilla are currently struggling with economic problems.
"The club is in a difficult moment, but we have to do things like this," he explained.
