Ahead of the Bundesliga match on Saturday evening, one of Germany's top talents is back in the spotlight for several reasons.

When Bayern Munich faces reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Munich arena, German internationals Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala will be the center of attention.

Over the past few days, the futures of both gifted youngsters have come under scrutiny. Bayern attacker Musiala is reportedly in advanced talks to extend his contract, which currently runs until 2026.

It is widely speculated that the name of Leverkusen's midfielder played a key role when Bayern officials met with Musiala's management.

Media reports suggest Bayern is planning to make a move for Wirtz next summer to bring together the country's two most promising talents.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer has spoken of Musiala as the rightful successor to Thomas Muller, calling him the club's figurehead "for the upcoming 20 years." The 21-year-old forward, however, is keenly watching how Bayern will develop in the years to come.

Securing Wirtz for a reported 150 million euros (about 167 million U.S. dollars) could be the motivation Musiala needs to commit to a long-term contract.

Musiala's presence at Bayern may give the club an advantage in the race for Wirtz, as European competitors such as Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Manchester City are also said to be seriously interested.

Wirtz, whose current contract with Leverkusen expires in 2027, has not yet made a decision about his future. Insiders believe next year could be the time for his next career move.

It's no secret that both youngsters enjoy their time together with the German national team, saying, "how we love to play together." They often add, "we are buddies," despite playing for rival clubs.

Beyond the clash of these rising stars, the match between the German record champions and last season's champions has drawn widespread attention.

With over 350,000 ticket requests for just 75,000 available seats, the game will be broadcast in over 200 countries and regions. Bayern officials revealed that tickets were sold out several months ago.

Like Musiala, Wirtz has expressed a desire to join a club capable of helping him achieve his ambitions of winning the UEFA Champions League and the Ballon d'Or. Bayern's coach Vincent Kompany's forward-oriented playing style is said to provide the on-field freedom that both Musiala and Wirtz favor.

Media reports indicate Bayern has decided to take a big step and secure Wirtz's signature with a substantial investment.

"Both youngsters play together in a great way in the national team," said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund. ■
