Federico Girotti scored against his former club as Talleres Cordoba showed their title credentials with a 1-0 away win over River Plate in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.
The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute after Paulo Diaz lost his footing as he received Marcos Acuna's back-pass.
Girotti pounced on the loose ball and expertly rounded goalkeeper Franco Armani before slotting his shot into an empty net.
The result at Estadio Monumental leaves Talleres second in the 28-team Primera Division standings with 30 points from 16 outings, three points behind Velez Sarsfield. River Plate are seventh, six points further back.
"It's always special to come here," Girotti, who played for River Plate from 2018 to 2022, told reporters after the match.
"I started my career at River Plate and I know how hard it is to win here. Today, I was able to score the winning goal, which is a nice feeling. I apologize to everyone at River Plate."
In other Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, Central Cordoba won 2-1 at home to Barracas Central and hosts Sarmiento prevailed 1-0 against Union Santa Fe.
