La Liga club Celta Vigo on Wednesday confirmed it has extended the contract of coach Claudio Giraldez until the end of June 2027.
The 36-year-old former B-team coach, who replaced Rafael Benitez at the end of last season, had a previous contract due to expire in June 2025.
The two-year extension is a reward for his work in saving Celta from relegation last season and its bright start to the current campaign, which has seen the team take 13 points from its first nine matches of the new campaign, while scoring 16 goals in the process thanks to Giraldez's attacking style of football.
The club has claimed 30 points from the 19 games he has been in charge, which, if maintained over a full season, would see it challenge for a place in European competitions.
The announcement of the new contract comes just three days before Celta entertains Real Madrid in its Balaidos Stadium.
"RC Celta is strengthening its project, strengthening the growth of its youth system and giving the fans an individual style of football, which is happy, ambitious and very good to watch," the club said on its official website.
