The four Spanish top-flight sides in action in the first round of the Copa del Rey on Tuesday all secured their places in the second round with relative ease.
Deportivo Alaves had the toughest night as they sneaked home 1-0 away to SD Compostela in a poor match in which neither team had a shot on target, with Alaves' winner coming from an own goal from Compostela defender Kike Vidal as he looked to cut out a cross bound for Asier Villalibre.
Compostela were the better side after the break, but were unable to provide a finish to some decent creative play.
Sixth-tier Villamuriel made Rayo Vallecano work hard until Raul de Tomas finally broke the deadlock with a 43rd-minute penalty and Oscar Trejo doubled the lead a minute later.
De Tomas scored his second soon after the break, with Sergi Guardiola and Etienne Eto'o (the son of Samuel Eto'o) finishing off the night.
Villarreal blitzed Poblense with top scorer Ayoze Perez scoring a first-half hat-trick as the team who rank third in La Liga led 5-0 by the break.
The match ended 6-1 with Pape Gueye netting Villarreal's sixth of the game, before Aitor Pons netted a goal he will never forget against a rival that plays five levels above his side.
Valladolid also had a comfortable night as they won 4-1 away to Astur, from the city of Oviedo.
Valladolid led 2-0 at the break with goals from Juanmi Latasa and a Santi Ramos own goal, but Astur, who play in the sixth level of the Spanish game, got back into things when Robi Toral scored after 56 minutes.
Three minutes later Kike Perez reestablished Valladolid's two-goal lead, with Victor Meseguer making it 4-1 in injury time.
