Ajax secured a 2-0 victory over arch rivals Feyenoord on Wednesday in the 205th edition of the Dutch Classic, the "De Klassieker," referring to the matches between the two top-notch Dutch clubs.

The match was originally scheduled for September 1, but was postponed due to a police strike on that day. After Wednesday's win, Ajax collected 22 points from nine matches in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top-flight league, while Feyenoord stayed on 19 points from 10 matches.

Feyenoord started as favorites before the match following their impressive run in the UEFA Champions League and the domestic league, but the visitors took an early lead in the De Kuip stadium. After a long ball by Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer, Kenneth Taylor outran Hwang In-beom and beat Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther in the sixth minute.

After a corner, Wellenreuther couldn't get hold of the ball and Jorrel Hato doubled Ajax's advantage from close range in the 25th minute. On the stroke of halftime, Pasveer blocked Hwang's direct free-kick.

In the second half, Feyenoord failed to create clear-cut chances as Ajax was very well organized defensively.

The win was more than welcome as Ajax suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat against Feyenoord on April 7, their biggest ever defeat in the Eredivisie.

Ajax is second in the standings, level on points with FC Utrecht, ahead of fourth-placed Feyenoord. Reigning champions PSV had a perfect start of the season and leads the table with 30 points from 10 matches.
