Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday confirmed Vitor Pereira as their new first team coach.

Pereira, who has coached Portuguese giants Porto, joins from Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab and has agreed a contract until the end of the 2025-2026 season.

He replaces Gary O'Neil, who was sacked last weekend after a 2-1 defeat at home to Ipswich Town that left Wolves second from bottom of the Premier League with just nine points from 16 matches, which have seen 11 defeats.

56-year-old Pereira took his first training session at the club on Thursday, with his first game away to Leicester City on Sunday.

"Vitor is a highly respected and experienced coach who has achieved success across different leagues and will bring a new approach for the test ahead.

"This is a challenging moment for the club, and we want to thank Vitor for taking on this responsibility.

"We have full confidence in his ability to guide us back on track, alongside the players and staff, and the entire club will be united in supporting him to achieve success," commented Wolves chairman Jeff Shi over the signing.
