Italian Serie A giant Juventus made a like-for-like replacement on Monday, parting ways with veteran defender Danilo Luiz da Silva while securing the loan signing of Renato Veiga from Chelsea.
Danilo, 34, joined Juve from Manchester City in the summer of 2019 and became club captain last year. In his five-and-a-half year spell with Juve, the Brazilian made 213 appearances, scoring nine goals, and won one Scudetto, one Italian Super Cup and two Italian Cups.
But he had dropped down the pecking order under head coach Thiago Motta this season.
Rumors had linked Danilo with a move to Napoli during the winter transfer window, but he is now expected to return to his native Brazil to join Flamengo.
Juve later confirmed the signing of Veiga, a versatile youngster who can play both midfielder and defender. He has spent recent months in England playing primarily at left-back and central defense.
Veiga is Juve's third signing during this transfer window, following Alberto Costa and Randal Kolo Muani. The loan is for the remainder of the season, with the 21-year-old set to return to Chelsea at the end of the term.
