12 Chinese paddlers reach singles last 16 at ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup

All 12 Chinese paddlers advanced to the men's and women's singles last 16 at the 34th ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup on Friday, following strong performances in the group stage.

World No. 1 Lin Shidong breezed past Saudi Arabia's Ali Alkhadrawi 11-6, 11-3, 12-10 to complete the men's group stage with a perfect record. Meanwhile, fellow world No. 1 Sun Yingsha topped women's Group 1, defeating Qatar's Aia Mohamed 11-5, 11-3, 11-3.

"I played well in the group stage and hope to maintain focus in the following matches," Sun said. "With two matches per day in the knockout stage, I need to store my physical strength and rest well tonight."

Also on Friday, men's world No. 2 Wang Chuqin needed just 18 minutes to overpower Qatar's Ahmed Korani 11-2, 11-8, 11-7, while women's second seed Wang Manyu cruised past Iran's Neda Shahsavari 11-8, 11-0, 11-2 in just 15 minutes.

China's Wang Yidi, Chen Xingtong, Kuai Man, and Shi Xunyao also secured spots in the women's singles last 16, while Huang Youzheng, Chen Yuanyu, Lin Gaoyuan, and Liang Jingkun advanced in the men's draw.

According to the draw released on Friday night, Sun will face Lee Eun-hye of South Korea, while Wang Manyu will take on Suh Hyo-won of South Korea in the round of 16. Lin Shidong is set to face his compatriot Chen Yuanyu, while Wang Chuqin will meet Kao Cheng-jui of Chinese Taipei.
