The world No. 25 served 11 aces and won 95% of his first-serve points to prevail in an hour and 37 minutes in the Pacific Coast resort of Acapulco.

"I arrived 13 days ago. I went to the beach for two days and from that moment on I focused on the tennis court," Machac said during the trophy presentation. "Eleven straight days going to the club, leaving late. This is something that's very hard to do, but this feeling is amazing."

Machac is the first Czech player to win the ATP 500 tournament since Jiri Novak defeated Xavier Malisse in the 1998 final. The result is expected to propel the 24-year-old into the top 20 when the new world rankings are released on Monday.

Davidovich Fokina, who was also seeking his first ATP title, struggled from the outset against Machac, winning just 62% of points on serve and 20% while returning.

The 25-year-old, who is currently ranked No. 48, now has a 0-3 record in tour-level finals.
