Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to score 50,000 combined points in the regular season and playoffs on Tuesday.

James entered the home game against the New Orleans Pelicans one point shy of the 50,000-point mark and surpassed it with a 3-pointer early in the first quarter.

At age 40, James continues to make history. He became the league's all-time leading regular-season scorer on Feb. 7, 2023, when he broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record of 38,387 points, and he reached 40,000 regular-season points on March 2, 2024.

Abdul-Jabbar remains second on the all-time scoring list with 44,149 combined points.

James scored 34 points as the Lakers defeated the Pelicans 136-115.

In his 22nd NBA season, James is averaging 24.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game.
