Liao scores 26 as Royal Fighters beat Jiangsu Dragons

Liao Sanning scored 26 points to help the Beijing Royal Fighters edge the Jiangsu Dragons 96-95 on Thursday night for its second consecutive win in the 39th round of the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) regular season.

Jiangsu Dragons had the chance of ending its losing streak. With 13 seconds left, Jiangsu only trailed by one point. However, Liu Zexi of Jiangsu made a fatal mistake, Jared Sullinger of the away side took the ball away and shattered Jiangsu's hopes.

"As I told my players before the clash, we may face many problems on the away court. Although we pocketed the victory, we will sum up our shortcomings later," said Min Lulei, head coach of the Royal Fighters.

The Zhejiang Golden Bulls took a 52-49 lead at halftime when facing the first CBA Club Cup winner the Shanghai Sharks away, and it extended the lead in the third quarter with going 6 for 12 from 3-point range making its biggest lead of 16 points.

The Sharks had a 10-2 pointing dash at the beginning of the last period and tied the game 85-85. In the last minute of the game, Shanghai missed sort of chances and only scored two points through Liu Cheng's layup, failing to turn around the game.

Gabiel York and Liu Zeyi bagged 18 points respectively for Golden Bulls, while Damian Jones finished a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds. In Shanghai side, Kenneth Lofton Jr. scored a game-high of 40 points, plus 12 rebounds.

In two games played on Tuesday, the temporary league leader Zhejiang Lions beat the Jilin Northeast Tigers 118-103, the Nanjing Monkey Kings shocked the Liaoning Flying Leopards 106-97.

Elsewhere, the Beijing Ducks won over the Qingdao Eagles 110-101, the Fujian Sturgeons defeated the Ningbo Rockets 116-111, the Guangdong Southern Tigers smashed the Sichuan Blue Whales 101-73, the Guangzhou Loong Lions overpowered the Tianjin Pioneers 96-87, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers swept the Shenzhen Leopards 118-102, the Shanxi Loongs edged the Shandong heroes 120-119.
