Liu Longing for Opening Victory in 2006
Adjust font size:

Olympic champion Liu Xiang is gearing up for what he hopes will be his first victory in the new year at next week's indoor track and field meet in Shanghai.

Liu, the world record co-holder of the 110-meter hurdles, will run in the men's 60-meter hurdles race.

He was disqualified after his second false-start in the final at last year's meet.

Liu will be put to the test again next month at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow, where he will face fierce challenges from Frenchman Ladji Doucoure and Allen Johnson of the United States.
