Zheng Jie of China beat French qualifier Youlia Fedossova 6-0, 6-1 Wednesday to reach the second round of the Grand Prix SAR in Rabat, Morocco.

Zheng now plays Anne Kremer from Luxembourg. In other first-round play, Neha Uberoi of the United States beat Selima Sfar of Tunisia 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

In second-round matches, Melinda Czink of Hungary upset sixth-seeded Ashley Harkleroad 6-1, 6-4, and will now play Meghann Shaughnessy, who defeated Germany's Sandra Kloesel 7-5, 0-6, 6-3. Hana Sromova of the Czech Republic beat Russian qualifier Lioudmila Skavronskaia 6-1, 6-0.
