One thousand lucky people from67 countries and regions will carry the Asian Games Flame in Qatar from 25 November to 1 December.

The Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC) said on its website that torchbearers were selected from the thousands around the world who had submitted their applications to it.

The "Doha 2006 Torch Relay" for the 15th Asian Games will be the longest on record, traveling 50,000 kilometers through 15 countries and regions in more than 50 days, DAGOC said.

Arriving in Qatar on 25 November, the Flame will be carried by Official Torch Relay Ambassador Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani.

"As Torch Relay Ambassador I am honored to mark this auspicious moment, the final countdown to the most successful and memorable Asian Games," said Sheikh Joaan.

Once Sheikh Joaan passes the Flame to the second torch bearer at a special ceremony, it will commence its journey through all areas of Qatar including Al Shamal, Dukhan, Al Wakra, Al Kohr and then to Doha.

"This feels like a fantastic dream." Mohammed Al Hijji, the youngest Torch bearer was quoted as saying.

Torch Relay organizers called on everyone in Qatar playing a part in the Relay by lining the streets on the route and cheering on the torch, as well as sharing in the excitement by attending the local celebrations.
