Substitute Du Wenhui scored a late goal and helped Beijing Guo'an hold off defending champion Dalian Shide in a 27th round home play in the Chinese Football Super League.

With the win, the Beijing side climbed to the second place and got the upper hand in a runner-up competition as the league's front-runner Shandong Luneng triumphed over the bottom Chongqing Lifan 4-0 on Saturday and had 20 points ahead.

After a goalless first half, both teams stepped up offensives in the second. Du, who replaced playmaker Tao Wei in the break, shot the winner in the 86th minute with a dead chick.

After the match, Guo'an has 43 points while Shide remains on 40.

In other matches Tianjin Kangshifu ties Changchun Yatai 1-1 and Shanghai Liancheng blanked Shenzhen Jinwei 2-0.
