   Hoh Xil Nature Reserve

 

The reserve has an area of 45,000 square kilometers and an altitude of 4,000 to 5,000 meters above sea level. The main vegetation types there are highlands plain and highlands meadow.Hoh Xil Nature Reserve in northwestern Qinghai Province was founded in 1997. Its main protection targets are the unique wild plants and animals on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, especially the Tibetan antelope, one of China's most protected species native to the 600,000 square kilometers' grasslands at the reserve, the Altun Mountain in Xinjiang and the Qiangtang Nature Reserve in Tibet.


The reserve has 202 kinds of higher plants, 84 kinds of which are unique to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. There are also 53 species of birds and 29 species of mammals, including snow leopards, Tibetan wild asses, wild yaks, Tibetan antelope and golden eagles.

Travel tips:

Best time to visit: Never. Hoh Xil Nature Reserve is not open to visitors.
