Data of new car registrations in Germany in 2010 released by German federal transportation authority confirmed that Europe's largest automobile market shrunk by 23.4%. The total number of cars sold in Germany during 2010 was 2.92 million, 7% less than the sales of 2007 - the worst performance since the reunification of Germany in 1990.
In 2010, small cars were the best sellers in Germany while the more expensive Audi, BMW, Mercedes and VW Passat car models slipped down the top 10 list. Standard safety features include electronic stability and traction control systems, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, front side-impact airbags, overhead curtain airbags for front and rear passengers, and a tire pressure monitor; rear side-impact airbags are optional.
