Completed in 1999, the Jin Mao Tower is an 88-story landmark skyscraper standing at 421 meters tall in the Lujiazui area of the Pudong District of Shanghai. The Chinese pagoda-like building integrates the western and the traditional Chinese architectural features. It contains shopping space, offices and one of the highest hotels in the world, the five-star Shanghai Grand Hyatt Hotel (stories 53-87). Currently, it's the second tallest building in Shanghai. On the 88th floor is the Skywalk, an indoor observation deck which offers the panoramic views of Shanghai.
The exterior curtain wall of the tower, featuring latticework cladding made of aluminum alloy pipes, has attracted urban climbing enthusiasts through the years. In 2007, the renowned French "Spiderman" Alain Robert, though had his requests to scale the tower rejected by the local authorities, managed to successfully climb to the 88th floor and returned to the ground within 90 minutes.
