Completed in: 2008
Completed in 2008, the Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC) is a 101-story, 492-m supertall in the Lujiazui financial area of the Pudong District in Shanghai. Towering over nearby skyscrapers, the glass building has a distinctive trapezoid-shaped opening at the top, which helps reduce the wind pressure. In some people's eyes, the building's shape is like a huge bottle opener.
The building features prime offices, museums, observation decks and retail space. It has the world's tallest observation deck on the 100th floor at 474m (1,555 ft). The Park Hyatt Shanghai on floors 79- 93 is the second highest hotel in the world.
The building outpaced the Two International Finance Center as the tallest building in Shanghai. Presently, it's the second tallest building in China, as well as the third tallest in the world. However, it will soon be surpassed by the presently-under-construction Shanghai Tower, a 128-story skyscraper next to it and Jin Mao Tower.
