 Hammer Price: US$38.5 million

A 121.9cm x 121.9cm comic-strip painting of a man looking through a peephole into a room, executed in 1961 by the prominent U.S. pop artist Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), sold for US$38.5 million on Nov. 8, 2011 at Christie's New York. The auction star lot is marked with "I Can See the Whole Room!...and There's Nobody in it!", recognized as its name. The sale is a record for the pioneer of pop art, after his 1964 "Ohhh...Alright" hammered for US$ 38 million in 2010.
