These dinosaur remains were uncovered in Lufeng Basin, Yunnan Province in 1938, and described and named in 1941 by Dr. C. C. Young, also known as the Father of Chinese vertebrate paleontology. At about 4-5 meters long, Lufengosaurus existed during the Early and Middle Jurassic Periods, eating plants as well as small animals. It is the first dinosaur skeleton discovered, excavated and restored for display independently by Chinese geologists and paleontologists.
