Of the 25 globally-leading high-tech companies operating in China, Google provided the highest average salaries for its employees, who earned an average of 18,160 yuan (US$2,883) per month in 2012, according to rankings recently released by iResearch, a leading market research firm focusing on China's Internet industry.
Google's employee benefits have always been highly praised. Apart from its much-coveted free hearty lunch, Google provides an average year-end bonus of 38,950 yuan (US$6,183) and generous parental leave to employees in China, among other benefits. The company revealed in August a pack of unusual "death benefits" which include paying the deceased's spouse or domestic partner 50 percent of their salary for 10 years, according to media reports.
Employees at Microsoft and Apple receive average year-end bonuses of 27,108 yuan (US$4,303) and 20,089 yuan (US$3,189) respectively.
Three domestic high-tech firms made into the top 20, with eBaoTech, a leading provider of innovative insurance software and services ranking 17th with its average salaries of 10,503 yuan (US$1,667) per month. Also making the list is Huawei (18th with 10,067 yuan, or US$1,598) and Internet power Tencent (20th with 9,973 yuan, or US$1,583).
In addition to high salaries, staff at Huawei and Tencent receive average year-end bonuses of 36,019 yuan (US$5,717) and 26,126 yuan (US$4,147), respectively. In January this year, reports said that Huawei's employees are entitled to buy housing built by the company for them at a fixed price of only 8,296 yuan (US$1,317) per square meter, compared to the average price of 15,000 yuan (US$2,381) per square meter in the neighboring area. At Tencent, employees are eligible for interest-free loans of 200,000-300,000 yuan (US$31,746-47,619) when buying their first house.
China's search engine giant Baidu came at 24th with an average monthly salary of 8,840 yuan (US$1,403).
