As one of the few Chinese golfers active in the global golf competition, Liang Wen-Chong is the highest ranked golfer in China and the only Chinese golfer in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
In July 2008, Liang became the first Chinese golfer to make the cut at a major:The Open Championship at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club. In August 2010, he set a new course record at Whistling Straits with his eight-under 64 in the third round of the 2010 PGA Championship. In October 2012, Liang defeated much higher ranked Korean golfer Yang Yong-eun during a five-hole playoff and went on to win the Nanshan China Masters in Nanshan, Shandong Province.
