Top 10 billionaires in the world 2013: Hurun

The latest Hurun Global Rich List reveals that 1,453 people worldwide have a personal wealth of US$1 billion or more as of January 17, 2013.

The billionaires on the list have an average age of 63, and one in ten is female. Except for 74 percent self-made rich people, most of the rest are second generation inheritors and only 22 billionaires are beyond third generation.

Real estate, TMT (Technology, Media and Telecom), investment and retail are the most common sources of wealth.

Asia is the home to 608 billionaires, more than any other continent, followed by North America's 440 and Europe's 324, according to the China-based wealth magazine.

The U.S. and China share half of the world's billionaires, with 408 and 357 respectively, followed by Russia, Germany and India.

In terms of region, Moscow is the billionaire capital of the world, followed by New York, Hong Kong, Beijing and London.

The wealth of the top 10 has increased by 22 percent year on year.

73-year old Carlos Slim of Mexico is the richest man on the planet, with US$66 billion in personal wealth. Chinese real estate tycoon Li Ka-Shing, chairman of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. and Cheung Kong Holdings Ltd., is among the global top ten list. He was given the title of "richest Chinese" with a personal fortune of 200 billion yuan (US$32.1 billion).
