Crocodile
An ancient animal, the crocodile is regarded a "living fossil." It also has a pair of highly evolved eyes. Thanks to their unique location, the eyes can reach above the water surface even when the head stays under. Endowed with very good night vision, this creature is a nocturnal hunter. It has vertical-slit shaped pupils, similar to domestic cats, which can exclude light more effectively than circular pupils, helping protect its eyes during daylight. The tapetum lucidum -- something like a mirror -- on the rear wall of the eyes can reflect incoming light back onto the retina, which best utilizes the smallest amount of light available at night.
