SARS
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory disease caused by the SARS coronavirus. The first outbreak of SARS occurred in Shunde City in China's Guangdong Province, from whence it spread to many countries. A total of 8,273 cases were reported between November 2002 and July 2003, according to World Health Organization statistics. 775 of those who became infected in this outbreak died from the virus.
