White-collar workers in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province received the highest year-end bonuses in China in 2015, with an average of 15,044 yuan (US$2,426), according to a report released by Zhaopin.com, one of China's leading HR service providers.
Beijing and Shanghai followed, with 14,412 yuan (US$2,325) and 13,532 yuan (US$2,183) respectively.
The survey of white-collar workers in 32 major Chinese cities shows the overall average year-end bonus in 2015 was 10,767 yuan (US$1,737), a significant 3,000 yuan (US$484) less than 2014.
Yantai in Shandong Province, Guiyang in Guizhou Province and Shenyang in Liaoning Province occupied the bottom three positions on the list, with an average bonus of 3,458 yuan (US$558), 4,125 yuan (US$665) and 5,140 yuan (US$829), respectively.
Employees in the financial sector were the biggest beneficiaries, with an average of 17,000 yuan (US$2,742), followed by the energy, IT and Internet sectors with more than 14,000 yuan (US$2,258) each.
On a sectoral basis, the service sector ranked bottom with only 6,102 yuan (US$984).
The report shows that only 13.4 percent of the respondents got year-end bonuses, while 20.5 percent were promised a bonus after the Chinese Spring Festival holiday between Feb. 7 and Feb. 13.
A total of 93.4 percent of the respondents who would get year-end bonuses said they would get cash bonus, 11.7 percent receive physical rewards and 2.7 percent stocks or stock options.
