 Zhuo Shi

Zhuo Shi was the name of a couple who lived in Han Dan of the State of Zhao (today's Han Dan of Hebei Province) during the Warring States period (475-221 B.C.). After the State of Zhao was defeated by the State of Qin, all the wealthy people of Zhao were exiled, including Zhuo Shi. The couple moved to Lin Qiong (today's Qiong Lai in Sichuan Province), an undeveloped place that was rich in iron ore. Zhuo Shi hired a large number of cheap laborers to mine iron ore and engaged in the industry of iron casting. They later became the richest people in the local area, with over 1,000 servants.
