Potala Palace in Lhasa 布达拉宫(拉萨)
The Potala Palace perches on the Hongshan Mountain in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet autonomous region, at some 3,650 meters above sea level. The magnificent palace, with a history of about 1,400 years, is the largest and best-preserved palace complex in Tibet. The stone-and-wood-structured palace was first built in 641 by Songtsan Gambo, ruler of the Tubo Kingdom, for his bride Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It was added to UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List in 1994.
