Top 10 Chinese cities by GDP in the first three quarters of 2020

No. 5: Guangzhou


According to Guangzhou Statistics Bureau, the city’s GDP in the first nine months of 2020 reached 1.75 trillion yuan, up 1.0% year on year.


Specifically, the growth rate of the output value of the city’s agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery sectors reached 6.6%, a record high over the past 18 years. The added value of emerging industries in the city amounted to 465.1 billion yuan, up 1.3% year on year, accounting for 26.6% of its total GDP. The city’s IAB (new-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine) industries have seen robust growth, with the total add-value up 5.8%. In addition, 211,400 new urban jobs were added in the city, and the registered urban unemployment rate was 2.53%, which was kept under control of the 3.5% target.
