5. "Mad Detective" (2007)

Directed by cult director Johnnie To and his fellow Milkyway Image director Wai Ka-Fai, "Mad Detective" tells an inventive mystery story about a rookie cop (played by Andy On) who teams up with a former detective (played by Sean Lau) with a supernatural gift to see the inner personalities of people. Together they attempt to hunt down a serial killer. This unconventional, avant-garde, funky Hong Kong thriller is cleverly scripted, brilliantly acted, and masterfully edited. It explores the manic intensity and delves into the human psyche and morals.
