The coastline of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is home to an array of marine life, including dugongs, a marine mammal now considered vulnerable to extinction.
Safeguarding the world's second-largest dugong population is a priority of the UAE's effort to restore seagrass beds, coral reefs and mangrove habitats along the Gulf coast, which will also improve conditions for many other marine species.
Area restored so far: 7,500 hectares
2030 target: 12,500 hectares
