Since his debut in the 1970s, Chow has acted in more than 100 films and about 20 TV drama series, conquering the domestic and international audience with his brilliant acting skills and spectacular personal glamour. Chow, who greatly increased his popularity in Asia with his TV series "Shanghai Bund" in 1980, later focused on movies.
Chow is well-known in Asia for his heroic gangster genre films such as "A Better Tomorrow" (1987), "The Killer" (1989) and "Hard Boiled" (1992). The superstar moved to Hollywood for further development in the mid-1990s. He is best-known to the west for his role as Li Mu-bai in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" directed by renowned Chinese filmmaker Ang Lee. The film proved to be a great winner at both the international box office and the Oscars.
