Yeoh, the Miss Malaysia beauty pageant winner in 1983, is widely recognized as Asia’s No. 1 action film actress. She is best-known international audiences for her portrayals of hard-boiled female characters, such as the beautiful policewoman in "Police Story 3: Super Cop," where she co-starred with Jackie Chan in 1992, the charming secret agent Wai Lin in the James Bond hit "Tomorrow Never Dies" in 1997, and the powerful swordswoman in Ang Lee's martial arts film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000.
Yeoh was nominated Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards 1997 for her performance in the historical drama "The Soong Sisters". She was also nominated for Best Actress at Taiwan Golden Horse Film Festival in 2000, the Hong Kong Film Awards 2001 and the BAFTA Film Awards 2001 for her role in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
In 2007, Yeoh was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur (National Order of the Legion of Honor) by then-French President Jacques Chirac, in recognition of her contributions to the arts and cultural exchanges between Asia and France.
