The 347-kilometer-long State Road 227, known as one of the most beautiful scenic drives in China, runs northwestward amid the mountainous areas that are on average above 3,000 meters high from Xining, capital city of Qinghai Province to Zhangye City in Gansu Province. As if browsing through a gallery, the drive crosses the Qilian Mountains, unveiling the magnificent views of snow-capped mountains set off by the vast blue sky, lavish forests by crystal-clear lakes on the amazingly broad highland pastures dotted by yaks and sheep.
