Covering an area of about 4,500 square kilometers, Qinghai Lake is the largest lake in China. Surrounded by four mountain ranges, the largest salt-water lake lies on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau 4,500 meters above sea level. It is known for its fascinating color changes when viewed from different angles, at different times of day, and in different seasons. Horses and sheep graze on its grassy shores. You will also see numerous colorful Tibetan prayer flags fluttering in the wind, majestic and stunning temples and monasteries, and some faithful pilgrims performing prostrations along the road circling the lake. Traveling on your own terms – either driving or cycling – is the best way to enjoy the picturesque scenery of the lake and its surroundings. [Zhang Junmian/China.org.cn]
