The very first food festival on train was held in mid April onboard the T112 train travelling from Hangzhou to Lanzhou. The festival lasted for one month and passengers had the opportunities to taste some famous dishes originated from Hangzhou or north-west of China such as Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup, Dried Bamboo and Duck Soup and West Lake Fish in Vinegar Gravy.

Many tourists tried one of the most famous north-west dish, Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup and commented that the dish was really authentic and thought it was amazing that the cooks from Hangzhou could make such delicious north-west food. As introduced by the train’s conductor, all the cooks on those trains were from Hangzhou and were sent to Lanzhou to study how to cook Lanzhou food. Also, the pita bread and garlic for that dish were purchased from Lanzhou. One of the chief cooks, Xu Jian, also made some improvement on the dish after listening to suggestions from passengers both from north China and south China.

This event improved the dining services on train and the satisfaction of passengers. After the festival, the trains on this route will keep some of the popular dishes and bring out new dishes from time to time.
