The predecessor of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) was Yan'an Foreign Languages School, which emerged from the Russian Language Section of the 3rd Branch of the Chinese People's Anti-Japanese Military and Political College which was founded in 1941. BFSU is the oldest foreign language university in China and also offers more foreign language programs than any other university in China. It has 49 language courses, including 15 that are the only ones in the country, and 62 majors, including literature, law, economics, management and information systems.
