CHINA-FUJIAN-ANCIENT CAMPHOR TREE (CN)

A statue is seen through a small hole in an ancient camphor tree at the Poshi Village in Jianyang City, southeast China's Fujian Province, March 1, 2013. The statue of Zhu Xi [1130-1200), a renowned Chinese ideologist, philosopher and educator during the Southern Song Dynasty [1127-1279), was set inside the 36-meter-high camphor tree. The statue, which is 0.6 meter in height, was initially made at a crack of the tree to commemorate Zhu Xi. Later with the self healing of the crack in the following years, the statue was finally hidden inside the tree and could only be seen through a small hole. [Xinhua/Zhang Guojun]
