The “Festival of Springs” kicks off today in Jinan, the capital of east China’s Shandong Province. During the 10-day festival, 39 activities will be held in the city, including a talent show, a group visit to 72 different springs, and an international tourism trade fair. With a history of more than 4,600 years, Jinan is the political, military, economic and cultural center of Shandong Province. The city has 72 springs, therefore it is known as China’s "City of Springs."

Baotu Spring is Jinan’s most famous spring. Its pool is fed by underground water through three outlets, and the volume of the water coming out of the spring can reach 240,000 cubic meters per day. Water jets from the spring is said to reach as high as 26.49 meters (86.9 feet), attracting millions of visitors all year round.
